Living Beings Exhibit

The Living Beings mini-exhibit took place at the Fairfield CoLab during the months of December/January 2025. The exhibit is the result of a photographic exploration of local woodlands in southeast Iowa in November 2025. The trees at that time have already lost much of their foliage, revealing their intricate structures of branches, twigs, and remaining leaves. It is this intricacy that interests me and why I photograph woodlands mostly in late fall and winter. I love observing the fractals of the branches against the illuminated sky. And yet the remaining leaves still have colors that create delightful illuminations, especially when backlit by sunlight. I took over 600 photos in a two-week period. Primary locations were Jefferson County Park, Brinton Timbers, and Lacey-Keosauqua State Park. I feel so much peace in the woods. I hope these images convey to you some of the feeling of beauty and magnificence of our local woodlands.
