Fairfield Iconic

Fairfield Iconic is a series of photographs taken in the downtown area of Fairfield Iowa between the years of 2008 and 2023. Each image communicates a sense of place that once served or still serves community life. The images also have an abstract expression of color, shape, and form that has its interest regardless of the identity of the object. The images were created initially for their abstraction and, in particular their color, but over time the idea of documenting a sense of place became stronger. I’ve always been attracted to color photography, inspired by the early masters like Ernst Haas and Saul Leiter, who demonstrated the beauty of vivid color in urban settings.

The exhibit was presented by the Fairfield Arts Association at the Fairfield Arts and Convention from June 6th to August 8th, 2025. Media coverage included KYOU TV and the South East Iowa Union.
